CO 2 or Carbonates – What is the Active Species in Electrochemical CO 2 Reduction over Fe‐Porphyrin?

چکیده
CO2 reduction is typically performed at neutral pH. Under these conditions in equilibrium with H2CO3, HCO3− and CO32−. However, despite their presence so far most studies solely focus on the contribution of while carbonate species as alternative reactants are generally neglected. Using density functional theory (DFT) modelling we explore possible to overall activity for a Fe porphyrin model catalyst. Considering only reaction Gibbs free energies, find carbonic acid (H2CO3), bicarbonate (HCO3−) be equally likely. owing very high activation barrier initial adsorption onto catalyst, found several orders magnitude faster. These data used pH dependence rates different reactants. results confirm that likely independent reactor setup.

Electrochemical and Infrared Studies of the Reduction of Organic Carbonates
INTRODUCTION Electrolytes typically used in lithium batteries consist of a lithium salt dissolved in an organic solvent, or a mixture of these solvents. The solvents fall into two general classes: ethers or alkyl esters of carbonic acid. Because of lower volatility and higher flash point, the organic carbonates are the preferred solvent class in commercial batteries. Propylene carbonate (PC) ha...
متن کاملInsight into CO activation over Cu(100) under electrochemical conditions
The reduction of CO2 on copper electrodes has attracted great attentions in the last decades, since it provides a sustainable approach for energy restore. During the CO2 reduction process, the electron transfer to COads is experimentally suggested to be the crucial step. In this work, we examine two possible pathways in CO activation, i.e. to generate COHads and CHOads, respectively, by perform...
متن کاملTheoretical Investigations of the Electrochemical Reduction of CO on Single Metal Atoms Embedded in Graphene
Single transition metal atoms embedded at single vacancies of graphene provide a unique paradigm for catalytic reactions. We present a density functional theory study of such systems for the electrochemical reduction of CO. Theoretical investigations of CO electrochemical reduction are particularly challenging in that electrochemical activation energies are a necessary descriptor of activity. W...
متن کاملA comparative study on the dispersion of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 nanoparticles over HZSM-5 via batch co-precipitation, semibatch co- precipitation and combined co-precipitation-ultrasound methods
A series of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 nanoparticles over HZSM-5 were successfully prepared using different methods of batch co-precipitation, semibatch co-precipitation and combined co-precipitation-ultrasound. Nitrates of copper, zinc and aluminum were used as precursors, while Na-ZSM-5 was employed as composite support and sodium carbonate was used as precipitant agent. The effects of preparation methods...
